The Health Care Auxiliary has been extremely busy over the last two months. While you might think that the Volunteers at the Village Office are just meeting for coffee and a chat, they are actually making plans and throwing out ideas to bring funds in for our proposed new Clinic.
To date we have raised $2,700 at the January 9th Kick Off, $2,700 at Cupids Clinic, $1,500 from Go For Gold and $1,622 from our latest Branching Out Campaign which has been running since January 25th. A total of $8,500.
At present we are spooling up for St. Patrick’s Day, March 17th; at 1:30pm there will be an afternoon show of “Mrs. Brown’s Boys” at the Roxy. This is a hilarious Dublin TV series by funniest man in Ireland, Brendan O’Carroll, minimum $5.00 donation. Green popcorn and non-alcoholic green beer can be arranged by calling Nancy at 247-0041 or nevamore@shaw.ca by March 16th.
After the show the Surf Lodge will be featuring “Shillelagh” with traditional Irish Stew and music by Gradantis Plus One. Partial proceeds donated to the Health Care Foundation.
Saturday, April 3rd sees us gearing up for our “Get Geared Up!” event at the Agi Hall. We are looking for new or used sports equipment and outdoor recreational items to be donated for sale.
This is going to be a fun morning starting at 9 am, there will be a healthy breakfast available and a Silent Auction with Gift Certificates. Look at this activity as a “spring cleaning” opportunity. Remember the “clicking for the Clinic” campaign that we all participated in for the online competition from Aviva? Well, the Gabriola Health Care Society has found a 5 minute quiz, one time only that you could try to help us win a $20,000 donation to the Foundation, and it was quite fun to do!
A few of us that are on the constant search for new ways to build up the Foundation coppers have checked out this site, registered the Gabriola Health Care Foundation as a preferred charity, and taken the quiz. You do not have to have a Capital One Credit card, and you are not going to get one, this quiz is hosted for March as part of CanadaHelps.org, the RCMP, and Capital One as part of “Fraud Prevention Month” in Canada. One entry per person, you must be a resident of Canada and of legal age. Again, it won’t cost you anything but time – and who knows – you might win $20,000 for Health Care on the Island.
