After-hour evacuations
By Richard Goode, Special to the Gabriola Sounder
Thursday, November 27, 2003

The BCFMWU was approached by Gail Lund, Gabriola's Regional Director, to supply after-hours emergency call-outs from December 1st to the 19th inclusive.

The current method of evacuation, the Harbour Patrol Vessel, will not be available during this period because of an annual refit. The union and the company realize this is a special situation that needs to be addressed. Therefore, the majority of the MV Quinsam crew will try to be available for emergency call-outs between the above dates.

I would like to thank Captain Bill Dickie, acting Marine Superintendent, and Gail Lund, Regional Director, for their assistance in this matter and especially the crew members who put their names forward.
