Gabriolan Colin Masson was among a dozen handliner enthusiasts who met up last weekend at Shack Island, after rowing from the Sunshine Coast to Pilot Bay on Gabriola. The group left the Sunshine Coast on Saturday morning and arrived in Pilot Bay around 3pm leaving the next morning for Piper’s Lagoon. Colin was rowing his original Luoma-built handliner, the Bus Bailey, named after the original owner who lived and worked off of Shack Island back in the 30s and 40s. «more»

The Commons has become an important part of life for many Gabriolans. People from other places are flabbergasted when they find out what has been achieved by our community. Beyond the new cob wall, which can be seen from the road, are two community gardens with sixty individual plots or allotments, an experimental garden, a new blueberry patch, an orchard, a woodworking shop, a large house with several meeting rooms and the home of People for a Healthy Community. «more»


BC Ferries considering new bike and overheight fares for 2010
