The Mid Island Velo Association is organizing a three stage omnium for the weekend of August 16-17.

An omnium is a bicycle stage race where participants may choose to ride one or more, or all stages. Awards are given for each stage but only those who complete all stages qualify for the overall awards.

The first stage is a short time trial on Berry Point Road, starting and finishing by Ricardo Road. Riders will start at one-minute intervals and are not allowed to pace each other. First rider is off at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. After the time trial, the competitors will be seeded into three performance-based groups according to finishing times.

The second stage is a road race starting just past the elementary school and proceeding clockwise down North Road, down past Silva Bay and back up South Road. The slowest category will come straight back up Brickyard Hill to finish just before the RCMP station, the middle category will turn up Ferne Road and then on Tait Road past the gun club, back onto North Road and then up Brickyard to finish. The fastest category will do two laps of the Ferne loop. Groups will start at 5:00 p.m., 5:05 p.m. and 5:10 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. Each group will have a lead car to warn oncoming traffic. Since each group will tend to ride as a pack, there will be minimal traffic disruption.

The third stage is a short circuit race on DeCourcy Drive. The slowest group will race for 25 minutes, starting at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, the middle group for 40 minutes, starting at 11:45a.m. and the fast group for an hour, starting at 12:45p.m. Access to houses on the circuit will be facilitated by marshals at each entrance point and the race will be halted in the event of any emergency. Registration and awards presentation will be upstairs at The Commons.
