    It’s that time of year again for my annual tirade against the commercial herring fishery! This year the Flat Top Islands, Gabriola Pass, Whalebone, and even Silva Bay hosted this event, with dozens of gillnetters hugging the shorelines sucking up the roe sticks.

    Chinook fishing fell off over the past week. Bait is scarce, and the herring are preparing to spawn soon, so there will be lots of movement as the herring come inshore to spawn.
