Adin Brenner (12) and his sister Jasmine (14), already known on Gabriola and around BC as exceptional gymnasts, took home medals recently at the Tumbling and Trampoline Provincial Championships.

Submitted photo: Jasmine and Adin Brenner with their latest haul of provincial medals, this time in Tumbling and Trampoline.

The Brenners just started training in these four events in the fall. The events are trampoline, double mini-trampoline (two trampolines set together and tricks done from one to the next and then dismount trick), synchronized trampoline (two people) and tumbling (several tumbling skills in a row). Jasmine won a silver medal in the tumbling, and Adin won a silver in trampoline and gold in the other three events.

A YouTube video of the competition can be seen here.

Jasmine and Adin’s mom Mara added that the artistic provincial competition was held earlier on March 15 at which Adin won bronze in the vault and finished 7th all round while his sister Jasmine finished 11th in vault amongst a large group of girls.

Mara said the duo took up the Tumbling and Trampoline (T&T) this year as there is a national coach at Nanaimo Gymnastics this year.

“They decided to train half their time in artistic and half in the T&T. Adin trains a total of 19 hours a week and Jasmine trains for 8.”

She added that his was about trying something new, “that has so many crossover skills from what they’ve been training in for so many years that is very appealing.

“That’s the great thing about gymnastics, there are so many opportunities to cross over with diving, snowboarding, et cetera. It worked and they were very successful right away.”
