The Board at the hall recently decided to postpone the restoration project. This means that the hall will be available to rent until the restoration begins in mid-June of 2018.

As rental agent, I have heard from several regular activity renters that they are very happy to continue their group activities into the new year. As well, special events can also occur as planned.

Facilities in the kitchen still work, such as water, stove, and dishwasher. However, anyone using the hall will need to adapt to the basic fact that the women’s bathroom downstairs sustained a lot of water damage from the flood, so only one indoor toilet is still in use downstairs, which has become a unisex room. But there are two port-a-potties outside to use, each with an LED light on the inside of the door that can be turned on when needed.

With all of us needing to adapt to these special circumstances, I feel it makes us even more appreciative of the hall. This past year the outside has been repainted,  there are new metal roofs, and a beautiful new mural by a local artist has been installed. Now we await the restoration on the inside, which will include the installation of a wheelchair accessible bathroom upstairs.

If you would like to support the hall financially through these times, there is a registered program called Canada Helps. You can find it online by searching: Canada Helps Gabriola Community Hall. Whether  a one-time or monthly donation, it will all be appreciated.   Cheques can be mailed to GICHA, Box 205, Gabriola, V0R 1X0. A big thank you to all who have already signed up to support our hall financially.
