GERTIE’s fall/winter schedule will begin a little later than usual this year, as we want to make decisions based on the results of the current survey, ready for your comments until September 20 on the website at www.gertie.ca. Schedules and routes may also change depending upon budget decisions made at the AGM, 7 pm September 20 upstairs at the Commons. We hope to get lots of public input at this meeting, and everyone is welcome, regardless of whether you ride the GERTIE buses regularly, rarely, or never!

GERTIE’s ridership continues to increase steadily, with over 400 more riders from January to July this year than during the same period last year. And this summer’s Museum/GERTIE tours are proving to be more popular than ever, alternating each Sunday between human and natural history, with knowledgeable and entertaining tour guides. On Sunday August 26 Tom Cameron gave a most informative tour of Gabriola’s forest ecology and ethnobotany, with ‘bus stops’ to illustrate some of the contrasting biogeoclimatic zones and areas of historical human impact.

If you haven’t yet had a summer excursion on a GERTIE bus, take advantage of the summer schedule, and if you have a copy of the riders guide in hand, please note the local businesses whose ads in the brochure help to pay for printing of the guides. We couldn’t do it without them, and are grateful for their support. If you swung by the Festival booths during Cultivate weekend you might have seen the GERTIE booth, with a raffle for the ‘Party Bus’. We’re pleased to congratulate Chloe Straw for winning the raffle, and we wish her a wonderful ‘Party Bus’ adventure.
