Chinook fishing is very good offshore of the Fingers to offshore of Thrasher. Try fishing in water depths of 800 to 900 feet, with the downriggers at 140 to 180 feet. Hot spoons have been the Evil Eye, Pink Sink or Kitchen Sink, and best hoochies the T-Rex or Blue Meany. There are many undersized chinook that should be gently released, mixed with lots of 7 to 15 pound fish. Flesh tones range from red to orange, to marbled, to white. There are lots of hatchery fish in the mix, so please remember to turn in the heads for DFO use.

We landed and released a couple of beautiful coho while fishing for chinook. Retention should start June 1, and if they use the same guidelines as last year, only hatchery fish will be available to take home.

Ling and rockfish open May 1. There may be restrictions on certain species of rockfish this year. Everyone should consult the DFO rules for fishing rockfish and coho before retaining these species.

Prawning is still okay off the Flat Tops, but the commercials are coming, the commercials are coming! Time for everyone to hang it up for a while, soon.

Good fishing!
