Merry Christmas to all! May 2021 be kinder, more social, more positive, more productive, and more active than 2020! All the very best to all of you! We are very lucky to live in this very special place, Gabriola, where even in pandemic, the people and place are so unique and beautiful.

The weather did not cooperate very well last week for fishing. Between the heavy winds and rain, it was mostly a no go. Fishing at Thrasher and Neck Point are still reported to be good, bottom bouncing in 150 to 200 feet of water. Try Rhys Davis teasers in green/chartreuse, Mongoose or Kitchen Sink spoons, or the T-Rex or Blue Meany hoochie. Remember to release the undersized fish gently, and with a minimum of handling.

Prawning is still good off the Flat Tops. Check the regulations before fishing in January, as good old D.F.O. is apparently throwing their absolutely nonsensical “pulse fishery” at us again. If this goes into effect, it will mean that half the month we can’t go out and catch dinner for ourselves, while 4.4 million pounds of commercially caught prawns sit in freezers waiting to be sold.

Good fishing!
