Make way for the Silva Bay Salmon Derby, this weekend, June 18th and 19th! Clyde Wicks has worked his magic again, and has come up with $15,000 worth or prizes! Combine that with the Gabriola contributions, and you have a shot at $18,000 worth of goodies for a measly $25 entry! And you get a free yummy burger, to boot! Tickets at Silva Bay Marina, Page’s, North Road Sports, Island Home and Garden, Harbour Chandler, and Gone Fishin’. Stewart is out of town for this derby, so I could use some more fish weigh people. Please call me at 247-8807 if you are available. Derby times are dawn until 9 Saturday, dawn until noon Sunday. Awards at 1 o’clock Sunday. AnchoRAGE is going to give a brief presentation at the awards ceremony to bring everyone up to date on that issue. Please come and join us for this very special weekend! And, this year, pray for no wind!

Chinook fishing has been variable this week, with most trips producing between 1 and 2 salmon. Most people are fishing Grande through Whalebone, but there are fish on the outside of Entrance, and at Thrasher. The fish are mostly deep, and being taken bottombouncing in 160 to 200 feet of water. Bait in clear green scale or green chartreuse Rhys Davis teasers, spoons in Evil Eye, Killy MaGee, Pink Sink, or watermelon, or hoochies in green spackleback or T-Rex have been lures of choice.

Ling fishing is variable at Entrance and Gabriola Reef. Try large plastics, jigs, or bait in 35 to 65 feet of water for best results.

The commercial prawners are almost finished. It will still take a month to recover.

  Good fishing!
