Fishing Report for May 13, 2020

There are huge numbers of Chinook flooding all areas right now. This, typically, is the best fishing of the year. Thrasher, Grande, Entrance, and The Fingers are all showing fish. Try 120 to 180 feet on the riggers, with Evil Eye or Cookies and Cream spoons, or the T-Rex or Blue Meany hoochie. Remember, there is non retention of Chinook until July 15th locally.

Hopefully, the COVID restrictions will come off charter fishing at some point! It would sure be nice to get back on the water with my wonderful fishers!

There are good numbers of Coho around, also. Fin clipped Coho retention starts June 1st, with a two fish per person limit.

Ling and rockfish are present at Gabriola and Entrance Reefs.

Try bottom bouncing in 35 to 65 feet of water with large bait, jigs or plastics.

Apparently, the commercial prawn season has been delayed, possibly until early June.

Hopefully, it will end by the start of Chinook retention season. It is no fun skirting their gear at Thrasher and Entrance, especially in high winds.

  Good fishing!
