Chinook fishing has been good all week. Bottombouncing Grande to the waterfall in 160 to 180 feet of water has been the best method, but there are some larger fish out at Thrasher. We are not catching any large fish on the Silver Blue, but have been keeping lots of fish in the 7 to 12 pound size range. Almost all of these fish are of hatchery origin, and mostly likely from the States. They are very red fleshed, almost sockeye color, and very tasty! Some of these 10 to 12 pound fish are almost mature, which is very surprising. Lures of choice include bait in clear green scale or green/chartreuse Rhys Davis teasers, the Evil Eye, Killy MaGee, Bob Marley, Lemon Soda, Pink Sink or Mongoose spoons, or the T-Rex or green spackleback hoochie.
Hatchery Coho open for retention on June 1st. There were lots around in April, and now that we’re into the legal season, they seem to have dissipated. Little buggers!
Ling is worthwhile at Gabriola and Entrance Reef. Try large bait, jigs, or plastics in 35 to 65 feet of water for best results.
Good fishing!
