I finally got my 2014 chinook DNA samples back, and the results are very interesting. This compilation does not include all the hatchery fish, which were sampled by supplying the heads rather than a DNA punch.

Puget Sound

Serpentine River 2

Snohomish 4

Green14

Soos Creek 5

Nooksack 2

Skagit 2

Lower Columbia

Cowlitz 1

Mainland Cheakamus 1

Porteau Cove 1

Homathko 2

Lower Fraser River

Harrison 13

Chilliwack 18

Vancouver Island

Nanaimo 5

Cowichan 7

Puntledge 4

Big Qualicum 3

I tried to get a varied sampling by only taking a couple of fish from each catch, and the time frame was from April through mid-September 2014.

It is interesting to me that one third of the fish were of US origin. There were far more fish of US origin than Vancouver Island origin.

And, that the bulk of our catch comes from the Green, Harrison and Chilliwack Rivers.

I am awaiting the 2015 results which are supposed to be here soon. I still want to know where those crazy, short-nosed chinook come from. Head tag results that I viewed earlier showed that the bulk of the small adult, red-fleshed hatchery chinook that we caught in July 2015 were from the Chilliwack River.

Good fishing!
