There are still some nice 8 to 12 pound feeder Chinook from Grande to the waterfall, at Entrance, and Thrasher. We’ve been fishing the Grande to waterfall zone, bottom bouncing in 140 to 160 feet of water using Watermelon spoons, and Blue Meany hoochies. Be sure to check the gear frequently as the 10 to 12 inch Coho were out in droves the last time we fished, and you can drag them around endlessly, if you don’t check the lines.

I haven’t seen any sign of the Chums, yet. They show themselves quite readily, as they jump on their sides. If you do want to try to catch them, small purple/pink, or pink hooches will very occasionally entice them. Go sockeye slow, with lots of gear in the water. Bring someone interesting with you, as there may be lots of conversation between bites!

Prawning is excellent, but be sure to cull the small ones and the big female spawners.

There are reports of excellent shore fishing in Nanoose Bay for Coho. This sounds like a gas, fly fishing in waders or float tubes! One angler reported catching 10 Coho and a Chum in a single session.

Good fishing!
