The weather has not been conducive to fishing over the past week, so I really don’t have much to report.

There are still some mostly undersized chinook in the Grande/Thrasher areas, and the occasional late moving chinook and coho off the green can by Departure Bay.

Dane has been jigging off the green can in exceptionally shallow water for these stragglers, sometimes with good luck.

At least we don’t have last year’s problem of low water levels in the rivers! There should be plenty of flow for the fish to move safely upstream.

It will be interesting to get the coho counts for the East Vancouver Island rivers, as they’ve been depressed for years.

Hopefully this is the start of an upswing on an annual basis for these lovely fish.

Ling and rockfish are now closed for retention until May 01, 2014.

Prawning is good off the Flat Tops, but please return the female spawners to the water as soon as possible when emptying the traps.

Good fishing!
