Gabriola Reads returns!

Gabriola Reads

Press Release

Wednesday, February 19 2020

Mark your calendars for Friday evening, September 18th as the 2nd Gabriola Reads event returns to the Community Hall. Gabriola Reads, patterned after CBC’s Canada Reads, features five champions defending a novel of their choice based on a theme. The audience will determine the winner by voting, following the presentations.

This year’s theme (suggested after last year’s event) is Living the dream: life on an island.

Chris Straw, 2019’s Gabriola Reads champion, will be returning to defend his title with the book Sweetland, by Michael Crummey.

The other champions and their books are:

- Lisa Webster-Gibson (stage name Altogetherlisa): Celia’s Song by Lee Maracle

- Pat Maloney: No Great Mischief by Alistair MacLeod

- Mark Huisman: The Invention of the World by Jack Hodgins

- Debbie Marshall: Island by Johanna Skibsrud

More information will be forthcoming as details are finalized. Gabriola Reads is a joint effort fundraiser between the Gabriola Arts Council and the Gabriola Friends of the Library.
