Lately Gabriola Land and Trails Trust (GaLTT) has been concerned with weighty legal matters like establishing land covenants and licensing trails across private land. They are also in the final stages of renewing their strategic plan for the next five years, but they remain a hands-on group with a strong, practical focus.
GaLTT is happy to announce that they have arranged to pay for regular year-round pickup and disposal of doggy-doo bags from bins at Twin Beaches, Drumbeg and Sandwell parks. Local volunteers already keep the dispensers supplied with biodegradable bags, which have had a significant impact on Gabriola dog owners, reminding them of their obligation to pick up after their dogs.
BC Parks Manager in Nanaimo, David Forman, is moving the bins and bag dispensers to be near the public biffies at Twin Beaches and Drumbeg, away from the parking lots. This is an attempt to cut down on littering and encourage people to carry all their trash away with them. Find out more about GaLTT’s activities by visiting www.galtt.ca. GaLTT’s AGM will be on Feb. 7 at The Haven, preceded by a talk by Peter Lamb, author of The Islands Trust Story.
