Come and share your ideas for the ‘Community We Want’ at the Community Hall on Saturday March 4, from 1 to 4 pm.

GERTIE will get you there with the regular Saturday mid-day run from the Village (leaving at 12:30) and 2 return trips around the island at 3 and 4 pm.  This event is sponsored by the informal and inspiring Sustainable Gabriola group, who will be chartering everyone’s favourite ‘Gus the Bus’ for the event.  If you are planning on taking a GERTIE bus to the event and want to reserve a seat, please contact GERTIE at

In preparation for spring and especially summer increases in ridership, GERTIE would like to add a couple of volunteer drivers to its roster to help with extra summer runs and driver training for future hiring. If you are interested please contact us via the e-mail above or by phone at 250-668-6809.  This would be a good time for us to express a sincere GERTIE thank you to long-time occasional volunteer driver Dick Hamilton, who has helped us with additional scheduled summer trips and unscheduled replacement shifts.

Although we all hope that the snowy season is behind us, winter is not yet over, and we hope that passengers will understand that GERTIE sometimes has to bypass side roads that are too blocked or dangerous to navigate in heavy snow or icy conditions.

Tax time is just ahead of us, and now is a good time to remind regular passengers that your monthly GERTIE pass is tax deductible – just keep your purchase receipts to include with your remittance. It’s a good reminder that public transit should be encouraged by all levels of government.
