Last year the GIRO organization applied for funding through the Federal Government to improve the pathways around the main building which will allow better access for people with mobility challenges.

The GIRO application was successful and GIRO will be receiving $9,814. That grant money (plus $3,000 of GIRO funds), will create a paved pathway from the pedestrian gate up to the front door of the store, three disabled parking areas, and a walkway from the Recycling dock to the receiving area at the back of the building.

If you are using the depot on Wed. May 23 and Sat. May 26 you will need to “Watch Your Step” around the forms that will have been dug, in preparation for the concrete pour.

The depot will be closed on May 30 to allow the concrete time to cure. Thank you in advance for your patience.

This project will create a more accessible GIRO for all Islanders to enjoy!
