On Monday, August 8, the Gabriola Golf Club hosted players from the Mid Island Seniors Golf Association (MISGA). There were a total of 44 players with most of them coming from off island. And the winners were: overall low gross John Phelan (83); and overall low net Al Tanner (69). In the 0-18 handicap were Jim Prunty (72); Mike Shannon (72); and Don Switzer (74). In the 19-26   handicap were Richard Verdec (73); Frank Gregg (73); and Graham Miller (74). In the 27+ handicap were Alex Hart (69); Dick Sharples (71); and Bill Reynolds (73).

Men’s Day this past Wednesday was played under cloudy skies, but the sun did come out when we were on the deck. We had 16 players. In the low handicap group Dave Hendry was the low gross winner with a score of 85, while low net was won by Don Switzer with 67. In the high handicap group George MacLean was the low gross winner with a score of 99, and low net was won by Varley Bunn with 73. Jim Simpson and Dave Hendry hit the green for the KP. The pool winners were Don and Dave for low handicap, and George, Pat Tisdall, Bob Higginbottom and Alex Hart for the low handicap.

Nine ladies came out to play on Ladies Day, and the rain stopped in time for the start. It was net pin round, regular play. Lesley Hazeldine had low gross for the day and Claire Lefebvre had low net. No chip ins this week so the pot will be big next week.

The Friday Guy’s had a good golfing day after Elvis had left us the night before. Dick Sharples led the way with a nice net 66. David Cooper and Andre Lemieux tied for second with 70s. Most 3-putts mascot was won by Bob Higginbottom with 6. Our course has become a good challenge this year with our faster greens and very healthy hide ball grass just off the fairways. Nice going greens people!

The Gabriola Ladies Amateur is on Saturday, August 27, and it is open to anyone who has an RCGA handicap and wishes to play. See the club website at for more information.

Happy golfing!
