Health Auxiliary taking requests

Gabriola Auxiliary for Island Health Care Society

Monday, July 29 2013

The Gabriola Auxiliary celebrated our first full year of running The GABE Shop and Cart – 560 North Road – with a party in the parking lot. Many of our store and ice cream scooper volunteers dished out coupons and deals, popped balloons for prizes and so much more on July 20 and 21.

We had experts on everything from clocks and jewelry, making thrifty clothing into nifty outfits and even shiatsu massages by Yaz on the patio. We also had reps for the patient comfort services we support: Meals on Wheels, Life Line Emergency call services and Drivers to Doctors.

Mix it all together with the fresh popcorn smell (thanks, Kernels), the ice cream cones melting and the excited kids of all ages as they bought their own surprise birthday presents in the store, and what do you have? A very healthy and happy birthday bash!

It confirms we have continuing community support, as month by month the donations of gently used items keep rolling in. It also confirmed we need even more volunteers (three hours a week) for the store, website and advertising, as scoopers and drivers, as well as financial and legal visionaries and leaders.

With the generous support of the community we are now in a position to receive written requests for financial support of island health care programs or patient comfort services. Requests will be considered if they are from B.C. registered non-profit societies or individual Gabriola residents. We will review and respond before our November AGM.

Full details on how to apply will be available soon on our website: www.members.shaw.ca/Gabriola-Auxiliary/.
