Alessandro Iachelli and Julie Stewart, coordinators for the 62nd Annual Salmon BBQ, say this was another record-breaking year in terms of fundraising and attendance: 750 salmon dinners were served up on August 12 at the BBQ, and the raffle and silent auction raised significant funds as well.

Iachelli said it was, “another record year with more donors than ever before.

“The music and the kid zone kept everyone entertained and all seemed to be having a ball. Everything flowed well.”

New features this year included a First Nations Elder opening the event, stand-up comedy and a karate demo.

This was also the first year tickets were available online through the Community Hall website.

“We also saw the Gabriola Scouts and four girls from the “Leaders in Training” program join us as volunteers. For the first time, we will have a volunteer appreciation party soon.

“The community raised $19,000 to help keep our Community Hall operating.

“Thank you all for coming and supporting your hall. We couldn’t have done it without you! See you in 2018.”
