Gabriola Island welcomed its first annual Smart Car Parade on Sunday August 24 with three Smart Fortwo participants.

The cars did a driving tour/parade around the island with a few photo opportunity stops along the way bringing many smiles to local islanders who happened to see them passing by. Waves from children were gleefully returned.

After the drive-around, drivers and passengers gathered for a potluck lunch under perfect weather conditions and bantered about Smart Car stories and maintenance hints. They were joined by one latecomer Smart Car to make a total of four vehicles.

All the Smart Fortwo’s were island based and it is hoped that future events will see off-islanders coming over for what is hoped to be an annual event.

Lori Smith and Warren Hiebert, Gabriola residents for two years now, organized the event and were more than pleased and excited with the turnout.
