The Annual Gabriola Charity Golf Tournament, known as the Gabriola World Cup of Golf, will be Friday, Sept. 13 at the Gabriola Golf Course.

Doug Cavill, Tournament Coordinator, said there is still room for teams and individuals to enter in to the tournament, which raises funds for the Gabriola Lions Foundation, which is a separate charitable organization then the Gabriola Lions Club.

Funds raised by the Foundation can only be given to other charitable organizations on Gabriola, such as GaLTT, PHC, GROWLS and the Health Care Foundation.

Sixteen teams of five in total compete. Those wishing to play can enter as a team or as individuals. Those looking for a team are asked to contact André Lemieux, who will coordinate them to get on a team.  Over 30 local sponsors are providing prizes and items to be given away at the auctions. A new sponsor this year is the Laird Wheaton GM dealership from Nanaimo, who are sponsoring a Hole-in-One prize, a new Buick Verano.

Cost to enter is $85 per person, which includes the golf and banquet (sponsored by the Village Food Market), there are five players per team.

Of every entry fee, $40 goes to the Foundation, so a tax receipt can be issued in the amount of $40 per entry. Businesses which sponsor either individuals or an entire team can have the receipt issued to the business.

The format for the tournament is a modified texas scramble. Prizes and a trophy are awarded for first place. Second and third also receive prizes.

And yes, the Caboose will be open.
