Youth softball kicking off 2016 season with sign-up and skills day on April 3

Gabriola Youth Softball is going to be an independent program this year; it will be run by volunteers from the community.

We are hoping for a resurgence in popularity, and to get more players and coaches involved. The youth season runs from April 16 through until June 11. The new contacts will be Andrea McLuckie (247-0297) and Della Finney (247-7900).

There will be sign-up sheets located at the school and online - we are having a skills program at Rollo/McClay from 1 o’clock until 3 o’clock on Sunday April 3 where you also may sign up.

Tannie Meyer has confirmed she will have the concession open on April 3, with limited capacity (she’ll have hot beverages, pop, juice and all her usual snacks but can’t say whether she’ll be ready to serve up hot dogs).

Fees for youth ball will be $20 for T-ball and $30 for youth league play.

These fees are basically charged for the insurance with Softball BC, as the team shirts, etc. are all donated.

Depending on the amount of interest shown, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays are designated for minor softball.

We are in need of full-time, dedicated coaches and umpires. Please call Andrea or Della if you have the time, skills and interest to participate.

Many thanks for the continuing efforts of Donna Morecroft, Jeff Rietkirk, Matt McLuckie and Rick Fleming for their coaching dedication.

Let’s get the kids on the ball field!
