The 2018 Canadian Forces Snowbirds (431 Squadron) will be flying and performing over the Nanaimo Harbour on August 8 at 5:30pm.

This will mean that the 5:35pm Dangerous Goods sailing from Gabriola will be routed to the Duke Point ferry terminal; and the 6:10pm sailing from Nanaimo will be cancelled. Darin Guenette with BC Ferries said those would have planned on being on the 6:10 ferry will not be able to purchase tickets or board that sailing at Duke Point.

BC Ferries will resume service with the 6:40 sailing from Gabriola to Nanaimo followed by the 7:15pm sailing from Nanaimo.

The Snowbirds show will be centred over the boat basin in Nanaimo Harbour, but if past shows are any indication, Gabriolans will be able to watch the show from public access points along the north-west corner of Gabriola, from the cliffs off Canso around to Turtle Rock.

According to the City of Nanaimo, the show is expected to last 45 minutes to an hour and is being put on in support of the CH.I.L.D Foundation (Children with Intestinal and Liver Disorders).

For the safety of the pilots and the audience, the airspace is restricted during the show, including a complete ban on the use of drones within the Nanaimo Harbour Aerodrome.

Boat access in Nanaimo Harbour is also restricted during the show.

Those wishing to listen to commentary during the performance can tune in to RSM Productions Special Event Radio frequency at 98.7FM.
