The Regional District of Nanaimo is going to be looking for a south-end Emergency Reception Centre (ERC) site.

The Council of Christ Church Gabriola has decided it is not ready to sign a license agreement with the RDN.

Rob Brockley, Council President, said, “this decision was made after meeting with representatives of the RDN, and subsequent Council discussion of information we did not have when we agreed to the original RDN request in November 2016.

“In making this decision, we are trying to best meet the needs of the Gabriola community. Our decision was immediately conveyed to the RDN and to the Gabriola Community Hall Association.”

At the RDN Board meeting on Tuesday October 3, the RDN Board passed a motion asking staff be directed to provide alternative Emergency Reception Centre sites for Gabriola Island.
