The Gabriola Skatepark Fundraising Association has hit $4,648 in direct donations to the Keep on Pushin’ campaign.

This includes two donations of $1,000 and $2,000 respectively from private donors.

The $4,648 does not include $5,000 committed by the Gabriola Lions’ Club towards the park in April.

Nor does it include monies which Ride Free Gabriola has committed to providing through the Regional District of Nanaimo.

This past Friday night, the teens at the HOPE Centre Drop-In Program assembled collection jars which will be appearing at various retail locations around Gabriola this week.

Three other ways to donate:

1. Monthly donors - sign up at the Sounder office.

2. Donate directly at Coastal Community Credit Union to the “Gabriola Skatepark Fundraising Association” account.

3. Donate online via the GoFundMe.com/gabriolaskatepark

The Regional District of Nanaimo has said if the community can raise $72,000 by April of 2019, it will then be able to proceed with constructing a new skatepark in the northeast corner of Huxley Park.

Howard Houle, RDN Director for Electoral Area B (Gabriola, Mudge, DeCourcy) was the first to sign up personally as a monthly donor.

Houle said, “The skateboard park on Gabriola is something that we all need to get behind. This is about the youth and giving them a place to be able to play; we all need to stand up and help. Please make a donation to the Keep On Pushin’ [campaign] and help make the skateboard park a reality.”
