People for a Healthy Community (PHC) have started 2019 by launching the Gabriola Home Hospice Program and appointing Claudia Brann as the Hospice Program and Volunteer Coordinator.

Claudia comes to the program with experience in hospice care and community development. “I completed my nursing training in England and quickly realized that my interest was working in the community rather than in hospital. I joined a palliative care team of nurses, social workers, doctors and counsellors working out of St. Joseph’s Hospice in Hackney, London. It was an amazing experience, supporting people to be cared for at home and for them to choose where to die. Gabriola is such a naturally compassionate community with strong support for this program from the Gabriola health services that a home hospice program is a sustainable extension of the volunteerism, professional expertise and community caring that already exists here.”

The Gabriola Home Hospice Program will be recruiting a team of volunteers to offer non-medical services and support to clients and carers in their homes. If you are interested to hear more or to become a volunteer please contact Claudia (Homehospice@phcgabriola.org).
