Lions’ Concert on the Green hits all time highs with tribute to Fleetwood Mac

The Gabriola Lions’ Club Concert on the Green has set a new record for both amount raised and attendees, according to the 2017 Concert Chairman John Roman.

“The 2017 Concert on the Green was a remarkably entertaining and successful event with Roger Potter’s tribute to Neil Young and then the feature group, Dreams, and their Ultimate tribute to Fleetwood Mac.”

The crowd of 1622 (a record number) was up dancing with Roman saying at one point over 200 people were dancing  on the grass in front of the stage. 

The money raised by the Lions at the Concert on the Green was $41,272.

Roman said that, “tops our former all-time best - which was a little over $35000. 

“I  want to thank our sponsors, my fellow Lions and all those who attended for making this years Concert on the Green such a success.”

2017 is the Centennial Year for Lions Clubs International - and marks the 41st anniversary of the formation of the Gabriola Lions Club.

Monies raises by the Lions’ Club are funneled back into the Gabriola Community - already this year the Lions’ have provided grants to the Huxley Community Park rebuild and development, including the Tot Lot and Skate park, as well as for scholarships for Gabriola youth to experience the world.

The next meeting of the Gabriola Lions Club will be on September 11 at 6:30pm at the Gabriola Fire Hall.
