Vancouver Island RCMP are not releasing any more information regarding the November 16 house fire which occurred on Keith Drive.

Wayne McFetridge, 64, was found deceased inside the home after the fire had been extinguished.

While the RCMP are the lead organization for the incident, investigators from the BC Office of the Fire Commissioner were brought in to conduct an investigation into the cause of the fire, while the BC Coroners’ Service is investigating the cause of death for McFetridge.

Cpl. Janelle Shoihet, media liaison for RCMP “E” Division, said she could not confirm whether the Fire Commissioner’s report had been turned in to RCMP yet.

“In order to protect the integrity of the investigation, specific details cannot be released while it is still active and ongoing.

“I can assure you the investigation is active and ongoing.”

Barbara McLintock, BC Coroners’ Service, said, “Mr. McFetridge remains an open and active investigation.”

She confirmed that a copy of the coroner’s report will be provided when it is ready, but did not have a timeline for completion.
