Rain comes and volunteers shine for the 60th Annual Salmon BBQ

After mixing potato salad for 500, I was driving back to the Hall on Saturday afternoon. I was feeling frustrated and sad that it was raining. I know how badly we need rain but why on the day that Ute and I are organizing our last Community Hall Salmon Barbeque?

Next year it will be new people with new ideas. We look forward to sitting in the crowd and enjoying the day.

But when I got to the Hall, volunteers were everywhere, stage set up, beer garden ready to go – we just need the customers....and they came! Thank you to all the community who came out to make the 60th Annual Community Hall Salmon Barbeque a success once again.

It’s a rite of summer, isn’t it? Rain or shine, Gabriolans and guests came to enjoy good music, good food and Island style camaraderie. Special thanks to all the performers.

And the biggest thank you to all the volunteers who made it a great day. It takes so many willing volunteers to step up and help. Huge kudos to MC Oscar Reeves and his corny jokes, and to Dar and Bruce Yuile who took over organizing the entertainment section from Tsiporah. Thanks for a fabulous thirteen years, Tsiporah.

There were wonderful goods and services at the Raffle and Silent Auction. And thanks to the businesses like the Sounder, The Co-op, and of course, Village Food Market who once again donated most of the food items. Such generosity is outstanding!

Watch for plans to renovate the 30 year old Hall and get involved in our fund-raising projects, our survey and our requests for suggestions on how we can make the old girl an even better place to meet and to share in our Island Pride!
