RCMP Report April 16 - April 22

Cpl. Nathan Dame

Detachment Commander, Gabriola RCMP

Tuesday, April 25 2017

9 investigations were responded to by the Gabriola RCMP.

14 U-Turn violation tickets were handed out to drivers along the ferry line up.

Update to the to the Break and Enter at Arbutus Home Building Supplies and Island Home + Garden. The suspect has been identified and was arrested by the Nanaimo RCMP. The suspect is currently in custody awaiting a court appearance in May for several criminal charges.

Ferry Lineup: As you are most likely aware the ferry line up has become somewhat busier over the last two weeks. I do appreciate the frustration that the residents on Gabriola feel about this but making an unsafe U-Turn is still not a great idea. As Oprah Winfrey so elegantly put it, “You get a ticket and you get a ticket and you get a ticket”. Or was it a car?

April 16 - A noise complaint during the day was received by the Gabriola RCMP. Please take a look at the RDN bylaws if you have any noise concerns. Your first call would be to the RDN bylaws officer.

April 17 - A suspicious person complaint was called into the RCMP. A male with a scarf covering his face while wearing a hoodie was chased off a property on Bertha Ave. As I am sure the suspect would have received more from the home owner that the courts we would still love to get a call at the time this happens so we can attempt to identify the person.

April 18 - A Break and enter was reported that had occurred on Horseshoe Rd sometime in the last 3 to 4 weeks with an air compressor being taken from the property.
