17 total investigations responded to by the Gabriola RCMP. 1 mental health call resulting in a visit to the Nanaimo hospital.

March 27 - A report of a roll over collision on Tait Road. No reported injuries.

March 28 - A request was received to serve some civil documents. The RCMP do not serve civil documents but can attend to keep the peace if a confrontation is expected.

The Gabriola RCMP received a report of a theft in Silva Bay. Several large batteries were taken and some mischief done to one of the boats.

A shots fired complaint was received at a residence. On arrival it was discovered that the firearm was a pellet gun. The user of the pellet gun was practicing their marksmanship on a poor defenceless coffee percolator. Attempts to revive to the percolator failed making this a sad day for all coffee drinkers. The date for the memorial service is yet to be determined.

The Gabriola RCMP responded to a report of an impaired driver. The driver was located at home not impaired.

March 29 - A missing person was reported to police. Several attempts to locate the missing were negative until they arrived at the detachment reporting that they were not missing.

April 1 - The Gabriola RCMP received a request to keep the peace while some items were gathered out of a residence. 

The Gabriola Island RCMP attended the public meeting on March 29th. Cpl. Dame and Cst. Hendriks were impressed with how each person stated there part in a calm professional manner. Well done Gabriola.

The Nanaimo RCMP is continuing their investigation into the disappearance of 16 year old Makayla Chang, last seen in Nanaimo on March 17, 2017. Chang goes by the names of Makayla, Kayla or Finn and is described as part Asian/part Caucasian female. Chang is 5 ft. 1, 110 lbs, with light skin, and short dyed red hair. Chang wears glasses and has piercings in her lip and in the skin above her upper lip. 

Chang also wears wigs and may dress as a male at times.

Chang may be in the company of 53 year old Steven Michael Bacon. Photos of Mr. Bacon are being released as investigators believe he may have information which can assist police in locating Chang. Bacon is a Caucasian male who is 5 ft. 10, 209 lbs, with a short white buzz cut hairstyle. He has a thick white goatee that is yellowing, a teardrop tattoo under his left eye and a tattoo on the back of his right hand.
