Gabriola RCMP

Tuesday, October 20 2015

On October 17, 2015 Gabriola Island RCMP were actively involved in searching for a wanted individual when police observed this known property criminal in Gabriola's waters near Orlebar Point/ Entrance Island. Police were able to observe this male paddling in a mint green coloured standard size canoe heading in a southward direction. The male appeared to be "casing" nearby waterfront residences and eventually came to shore at an occupied house. The male was stopped and arrested by police and ultimately held in custody pending a court appearance in Nanaimo on Monday October 19, 2015. The male was found in possession of a confirmed stolen bike as well as the canoe which police strongly believe was also stolen. No owner has been located for this canoe and police are asking anyone with information on the owner to please contact the Gabriola Island RCMP (250-247-8333). The canoe was likely stolen from the Berry Point, Malaspina, Twin beaches area, and possibly from a seasonal home. The police investigation is ongoing relating to the stolen bike and (canoe) and charges are expected to be forwarded at a later date. The owner and their bike have been re-united and police would like to do the same with the owner of the canoe.
