The Regional District of Nanaimo will be spending $30,000 through the 2016 Grants-in-Aid First budget in supporting significant art work from each of the First Nations who’s boundaries are within the RDN.

Howard Houle, Director for Area B (Gabriola Mudge and DeCourcy Islands) made the motion to have staff set aside the $30,000.

Houle said, “we need to acknowledge that historic Dec. 9 meeting where the three First Nations [Snuneymuxw (Nanaimo), Snaw-Naw-As (Nanoose), and Qualicum] came to welcome us and bid us a good journey.

“In addition to that, it is important to see the Regional District of Nanaimo and three First cooperating together and this is a big way to do that.”
