Shelagh Rogers invested as UVic Chancellor

Shelagh Rogers (OC) of Gabriola formally became the University of Victoria’s 11th chancellor during an installation ceremony at the start of Spring Convocation held June 8 in the University Centre Farquhar Auditorium.

A widely respected CBC radio journalist, Rogers took her oath from Honourable Judith Guichon, Lieutenant Governor of BC, and Chancellor emeritus Murray Farmer invested Rogers in her ceremonial robes, with delegates from other universities in attendance.

Rogers hosts and produces The Next Chapter, a weekly CBC program about Canadian writers and songwriters. She is an officer of the Order of Canada for her support of Canadian culture and for her volunteer efforts for mental health and literacy. She is also an honorary witness for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

Spring Convocation marks the successful completion of studies for 3,649 recipients of various degrees, diplomas, and certificates. 

Among those presented with his degree by Chancellor Rogers was Gabriola’s Hayden Toews, who received his Bachelor in Advanced Mathematics and Economics.
