Williamson & Associates has applied to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure to subdivide the Twin Beaches Mall property.

That much information can be gained through the Jan. 23 agenda for the Gabriola Local Trust Committee.

The details of the subdivision - as far as how many lots are being created and where the boundaries will be - are not included in the public information.

Trust staff, when asked for more information, stated that either MOTI or the applicants for the subdivision would need to provide details. Dr. Bob Rooks and Brian Henning who have spoken on behalf of Williamson and Associates in the past, had not returned Sounder queries last week on the proposed subdivision as of press time.

Trust staff said the Twin Beaches property is currently zoned DC1 - District Commercial 1 and is just over 2 hectares in area, approximately, as shown on the Islands Trust public MapIT GIS system. The minimum and minimum average lot area for that zone is 0.5 hectares (1.24 acres) as may be found in the Gabriola Island Land Use Bylaw.

Henning had sent an email to the Sounder in November 2019, saying the subdivision was in early stages, it is early at this point, as they are working through the process with the agencies.

MOTI staff said on Jan. 30 that the request for subdivision is still in the application stage, and no decision has been made.
