Letter: Gabriola left out of proposed Gulf Islands National Park

Tuesday, December 6 2016

In my most recent newsletter of the Georgia Strait Alliance (a conservation umbrella group for the inland sea), I noticed a map of the proposed Gulf Islands National Park. Gabriola Island was not included. Is this true? Was this a mistake? Looking at the topography there seems to be a natural swale from the Flat Tops to Entrance Island. Could this be the semi-protected resting place for a mobile tank farm? I sure as hell hope not. Kinder Morgan has been given the go-ahead. I think they want to triple the oil tanker intake to Burrard Inlet. They will have to store those tankers somewhere while they wait to get in the harbour. Will it be off Gabriola’s coast? What crap is that? I encourage everyone to demonstrate against the Kinder Morgan project and get some answers on the Gabriola omission to the National Park proposal.
