Letter: Make it Stop

Tuesday, August 16 2016

Dear Editor

This week our neighbourhood was invaded by what sounded like a fire-breathing monster but turned out to be some complicated machine called ‘The Patcher’ that crawls slower than a snail around the streets spreading fresh bitumen and a thin layer of gravel over parts of the road that appear to require no attention at all.

I wouldn’t mind so much if they did the work quickly and left but this vehicle that sounds like something from a torture chamber has been disturbing my street for three days now – yes, three days!! - and is starting to really, really annoy me.

Perhaps someone can enlighten me as to why this ‘make work’ project needs to use up valuable money and an incredible number of decibels for absolutely no benefit whatsoever. Can’t we just pay it to go away – and stay away?

Regards,

~ Martin Humphries
