Letter: Petitions for tax funding

Tuesday, September 5 2017

My concern is every special interest group on Gabriola is lining up to get government funding for their group and the paying for this is on everyone’s property taxes and rent. We’ve seen this from an emergency dock that is rarely used other than for the police; bus, (GERTIE); our community hall; and now the arts council. The arts council is difficult to reach, they charge everyone who participates with them a high fee, and now they want the taxpayer to pay for their over-expenditures as seen by the remodeling of the Women’s Institute building. It’s time that all these special interest groups become self-reliant and self-sufficient and stop looking for taxpayer handouts.
