Letter: Regarding those opposed to Potlatch development

Tuesday, July 19 2016

Unless breaches of the law are exposed, the opposition to the Potlatch development is unlikely to effect change.

Unlike many Gabriola landowners, those who own Potlatch have been extraordinarily generous regarding access. Increasing and improving access to private land is best achieved by supporting the effective work of local organizations such as GALLT and by lobbying legislators for the “right to roam” type laws existing elsewhere.

The way to more affordable housing is to support the current efforts of Islands Trust to change the current highly restrictive bylaws on toilets and food preparation, not to try and get the Potlatch owner to supply it.
