Letter: Stop sign on Barrett Road at North Road intersection

Stop sign on Barrett Road at North Road intersection

Tuesday, July 19 2016

In July, 2015 my father-in-law and I were just passing the North Road mailboxes at Barrett Road and were nearly T-boned by someone blowing through the Barrett Road stop sign: not a rolling stop but full speed.

I see from the recent accident at the intersection and historic accident statistics that increased awareness has not worked. The warning signs are ineffective.

I suggest rumble strips or a speed bump at the stop line on Barrett Road. Road engineers can come up with a properly designed speed bump that is fine even at rolling stop speeds, but will definitely remind repeat offenders that there is a enforced reason to slow down or stop.
