Letter to the Editor: My time as Shirley Valentine on Gabriola

Monday, June 4 2012

I wanted to write to your island’s paper and thank everyone involved in the recent fundraiser event for the Gabriola Players. I found myself embraced by legendary island hospitality and warmth and support of the best kind.I felt myself relax and even fall asleep in my host and hostesses, Eric and Katherine Anderson’s hammock, as the Saturday morning sun beat into my needy bone marrow. Such a beautiful island to spend even the shortest amount of time on and even better to say farewell to 23 years of Shirley Valentine from the stage of the local Community Hall, albeit with all doors open to let out the heat.
My deepest thanks to all those involved, from sound to lighting to intermission sales, to the door greeters and ticket takers, to Peter and Terri for the last minute mirror, and to Ginny for her boundless energy and enthusiasm. To Katherine for her generosity and Eric for his cooking and above all to Jean Llewellyn for her extraordinary strength of spirit.
I had the best sleeps there.
