Letter: Trustees need to communicate that Gabriola needs up-to-date roads

Tuesday, September 5 2017

Taylor Bay Road is again in the limelight, this time because of the ferry lineups.

Basically the section of road used for lineups is also the section most in need of attention by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTI).

Under the direction of past (not the current) Trustees and Local Trust Committees, our local government has seen fit to insist that because they (the past Trustees) considered Gabriola to still be rural, road standards should be kept minimal.

MOTI has the position that if they tidy up Taylor Bay Road the construction standards should be a step up from rural.

The current Trustees should communicate to MOTI that Gabriola needs roads which are safe, and up to date, and built to current standards, regardless of how “rural” some residents may still consider the island.

Then MOTI can get to work.
