Letter to the Editor - RE: Fire Hall coverage in Jan. 16 Sounder

Monday, January 23 2012

Having just read your recent printings in the Sounder, I am at a loss as to why the fire chief, Mr. Jackson, is adamant that those who oppose spending upwards of $4.3 million of taxpayer dollars on a new fire hall are, and I quote here from your newspaper, “distasteful, personal harassment of a small group of people who, through lack of understanding of the past process feel the need to belittle the work of these fine citizens”. Mr. Jackson needs to realize that there is always opposition in a democratic society. Debate is healthy – it is what has made Canada, and all of western society, great nations.
There are always two sides to a story, as the saying goes.  I will certainly listen to both sides now, after reading quotes from his “speeches.”  I am a Canadian and proud to be able to speak my mind within the realms of democracy.
