Re: Gisele Rudischer’s Letter “More Public Consultation Please,” in July 16 Sounder

I agree completely with Rudischer’s comment “A lot of consequential changes are being proposed and the community deserves a public consultation process that represents more than the view of a few hundred residents . . .”

The purpose of doing the surveys and analysing the responses against available data was to explore some pressing issues facing the community – loss of biodiversity, limited freshwater, limited mechanisms to manage growth and a critical shortage of affordable housing.

The recommendations were intended to find a balance among these issues, given the mandate of the Housing Working Group and the Housing Advisory Planning Commission.

The Report was submitted to the Local Trust Committee with 28 recommendations for them to consider.

I have confidence that our Trustees will be diligent and thoughtful in their approach to addressing these issues.

I encourage all Gabriolans to read the report (http://tinyurl.com/gabriolamatters) and judge for yourselves and send your comments to the LTC.
