Share the love, not the intolerance

As many have by now read and heard about, there were some people on Gabriola this month who’s actions were both disgusting and stunning. See the RCMP report here catch up on what happened.

If there was one response (beyond shock, condemnation and outrage) which resonated through islanders, it was asking how such behaviour could be found in a community as accepting as Gabriola. It shouldn’t be found anywhere, but one does tend to think of Gabriola as accepting of many different lifestyles and beliefs.

Thankfully Gabriola is a supportive and tolerant community and has said in so many ways it will not condone this kind of treatment of any person, be they a resident or a visitor to our island.

There was an internet meme going around this week, it went out a few days after the incidents took place.

It read, “I don’t care if you’re black, white, asian, ugly, pretty, straight, gay or lesbian....if you’re gonna be nice to me, I’m gonna be nice to you.”

If only it some people could get that message.
