The annual New Year's Day Gabriola Polar Bear swim will take place at Twin Beaches this year, as opposed to the traditional location at Drumbeg Provincial Park.

Year after year the organizers of the event have simply let people know where and when to show up. They contacted the Sounder just before Christmas and said after the 2012 event last January, concerns were heard about lack of parking at the end of Stalker Road. So after a few brief discussions, the conclusion was to move the swim to Twin Beaches (aka Gabriola Sands Provincial Park) as there is much more parking available.

The swim will take place on January 1st, 2013 at 12 p.m. sharp. on whichever beach is the sunniest.

Those wishing to warm up have been invited up to the Twin Beaches Mall by Nikki Stewart and Denise DeMan, the managers of ABC Liquor and This'n'That Convenience Store respectively as both stores will be open on January 1st.
